Day Zero / Book 16
Ultraviolet
The clearing sky exposes a new threat as control of protection from the sun becomes a weapon.
As soot clears from the atmosphere, sunlight returns to a world still struggling to recover from nuclear war. The damaged ozone layer makes that return dangerous. Communities move work into the night, fields disappear beneath protective mesh, and the next harvest depends on limited resources for shielding against ultraviolet radiation.
Then seven aircraft intended to provide temporary protection are seized. Governments confront a struggle over which regions will receive that protection, while an approaching solar storm threatens the power, communications, and navigation systems needed for the response. Ultraviolet follows a civilization forced to adapt again, as environmental catastrophe becomes an instrument of political control. A standalone novel set in the world of Day Zero.
