Cascade

More than eight years after nuclear war, a breach at China’s Three Gorges Dam sends floodwater through rebuilt settlements along the Yangtze. Rescue efforts continue as China conceals a nuclear-armed submarine’s patrol area from its partners and Washington and Moscow prepare for escalation.

Evidence of sabotage leads investigators to a Russian intermediary and an American diplomat who then disappears. Michael Wayne and his wife, Izzy, travel to China to find him alive and identify whoever ordered the attack. Facing ambushes and firefights, they must uncover the truth before suspicion triggers retaliation that could kill many more people. Cascade is a standalone novel set in the world of Day Zero.
